Virtual Author Talk New England at 400 by Eric D Lehman

At the 400th anniversary of the pilgrims’ arrival (1620-2020), it’s time to look back, commemorate, and reflect on what New England has meant to its people, and to the world.
New England at 400: From Plymouth Rock to Present Day describes how every generation of immigrants and natives, Puritans and patriots, has defined this land anew. It is a story of transformation, but also continuity, since “New England” embodies both a collective philosophy and a shared past. Each chapter covers a decade of important incidents and events that defined or shaped the regional character, land, and culture.
Dr. Lehman is Associate Professor of English and director of the creative writing program at the University of Bridgeport. He lectures often outside the context of the University and has given over a hundred presentations of his research to historical societies, museums, and other groups.
He is the author of many books about his adopted state. Afoot in Connecticut: Journeys in Natural History was nominated for the Pushcart Prize. His biography of Charles Stratton, Becoming Tom Thumb, won the Henry Russell Hitchcock Award from the Victorian Society of America. His revolutionary history Homegrown Terror: Benedict Arnold and the Burning of New London was used in a question on Jeopardy. In addition to his books, Professor Lehman’s essays, reviews, and stories have been published in dozens of journals and magazines. He is also one of America’s top scholars of author Henry Miller.
